Sat 13th June - 14.00 Aldeburgh Festival Big Day Out
We are a long-running community choir of around 230 singers, based in Suffolk and split into four rehearsal groups, one based in Easton, near Framlingham, one in Woodbridge, one in Saxmundham and one in Bramford near Ipswich. All of our rehearsal venues are wheelchair friendly. We sing for our own and our audiences pleasure and to raise thousands of pounds for local and national charities each year. We also support entrepreneurs throughout the third world to lift their communities out of poverty with microloans via lendwithcare.org.
We are currently the only UK community choir pioneering the cutting edge technology of Jacktrip to rehearse together safely online. A completely new & exciting experience which cuts our travel carbon emissions whilst also being able to rehearse hearing each other just as if we were in the same physical space.
The Rabble Chorus began in 2009 as a choir for those who didn't see themselves as quite fitting into the 'Choral Society' mould or taking themselves too seriously, but just enjoyed singing. No-one auditions to join, and reading music is entirely optional. We tackle all sorts of musical styles, the majority being songs arranged especially for the Rabble that you won't have heard performed by choirs elsewhere. However, over the years we have also performed Carmina Burana and Mozarts Requiem with other choirs at the Royal Albert Hall, with original Alt-folk/Americana legends Charlie Dore and Julian Littman at the John Peel Centre and at Folk East Festival, with Swansea City Opera as part of their touring productions of Faust and La Boheme, with Gwyneth Herbert at Snape Maltings, at First Light Festival, as a Flash Mob for John Lewis Ipswich, and appear regularly in our own right at Maverick Festival each year. We performed the world premiere of a new specially commissioned work for the Beach Of Dreams Festival at dawn on Aldeburgh beach and also co-created and performed a world premiere of a specially commissioned piece by Kerry Andrew at Slaughden Martello Tower for the Landmark Trust's Golden Anniversary. You can listen to us singing and hear two of our members interviewed on Radio 3's 'Meet My Choir' HERE!
Come and join us, you'd be very welcome..... we have sessions on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings plus Thursday evenings, details on the info page so please read before emailing admin@therabblechorus.co.uk, thank you!
